When 5 year old children can come to the studio to make something they care about, like these Star Wars guys, I believe they learn that school is a place they belong, a place where the things they like have a place.
Also interesting that you used "guys" the way my nephews do: for them the people that go with their gianormous Lego collection are all "guys." "We got Lego guys from Aunt Sally"; "Where's my police guy?" etc.
I believe that when we honor what children feel is important we in turn give the children a sense that they are important....
ReplyDeleteNicely said Anna. And nicely illustrated. I'd never quite thought of it that way -- thanks for putting it into my head! =)
ReplyDeleteYes, exactly.
